2026 Summer Season

Information:

Season:

  • June 1, 2026 to September 3, 2026 (at the latest, more likely ending in August)
  • Includes regular season and playoffs
  • Likely 7 to 9 matches total per team

Venues:

  • Portage Pickleball Club, 38 George Hill Drive, Southport (Portage La Prairie), MB – outdoor courts with lights and washrooms.
    • Weather backup (subject to availability) – Central Plains RecPlex, 25 Centennaire Drive, Southport, MB – indoor gym surface (bring indoor shoes).
    • NOTE: Portage will be used exclusively for mixed (no gender matches will be in Portage).
  • Pickle Haüs, 275 De Baets St, Winnipeg, MB – indoor courts with outdoor surface.
  • Pickleball Club of Winnipeg, 20 – 500 Caron Road, Headingley, MB – indoor courts with outdoor surface.
  • Specific requests for one venue or another can’t be guaranteed.

Schedule:

  • All matches are 2 hours in length, starting at one of the following times (some dates/times may be added or dropped depending on demand and venue requirements):
    • Portage – Mondays and Wednesdays 6pm (6:30pm if arranged with both teams)
    • Pickle Haüs – Mondays 6pm and 8pm
    • Pickleball Club of Winnipeg – Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6pm and 8pm
  • Teams play approximately 1 match per week on one of the days/times listed.
  • Playing location/dates/times are not fixed – teams may or may not play at the same location or on the same day/time each week and specific requests can’t be guaranteed.
  • Full schedule will be published approximately 1 week before the season starts.
  • Brandon mixed teams always play in Portage.
  • Portage mixed teams will play in both Portage and Winnipeg (at PCW as the scheduling allows).
  • In mixed divisions with Brandon or Portage teams, Winnipeg mixed teams play in both Portage and Winnipeg.
  • If desired and court space is available, two Winnipeg (mixed or gender) teams could play in Portage.
  • Brandon and Portage gender teams will play in Winnipeg (at PCW as the scheduling allows). Please contact the MPL if you are considering entering a gender team from Brandon or Portage.

Divisions:

  • Mixed Doubles (must be 2 women and 2 men at each match)
  • Women’s Doubles
  • Men’s Doubles
  • 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 4.25+ – it’s unlikely to have enough teams in all levels so some levels may be distributed into other levels to balance the league (consulting with affected teams).
  • Each player can be a roster player on one team in each of mixed and gender doubles. The MPL will do its best to not schedule a player to play in both at the same time. However, there may be cases where the player plays one mixed and one gender match in one day (both at the same location).
  • Players only in one of mixed and gender doubles can spare in the other.

Format:

  • 4 players per team playing at the same time in each match.
  • Up to 8 players on the roster to allow for alternates.
  • Spares (non-roster players) are also allowed as needed.
  • Gender divisions – 6 doubles games per player per match – 2 games with each partner.
  • Mixed divisions – 6 doubles games per player per match – 4 mixed games and 2 gender games – each player will play with the same partner for all 4 mixed games (against 2 pairs of different opponents for 2 games each).
  • See the scoresheets for details on how partners and opponents are created for each match.

Significant Changes from Previous Seasons:

  • Game results will *not* be entered in DUPR.
  • This season will be implementing an additional registration requirement. The goal of this change is to reduce league administration and provide stability to the schedule (some teams/players have rigid work/home schedules so rely on the schedule not changing). This is the Performance Bond. The biggest change to teams is the addition of a fee to reschedule a match. See the detailed rules for complete details.
  • All players must be members of Pickleball Canada (PCO), Pickleball Manitoba (PMI) (or other provincial/territorial membership body) and the MPL. Memberships are on an annual basis (January to December) and current membership fees are PCO $10, PMI $10 and MPL $0 (no additional player fee over the league team entry fee). These fees are non-refundable (not controlled by the MPL), so please don’t do this registration until your team is confirmed to have a division to play in. Click here for PCO/PMI/MPL Individual Registration.

PCW Member Special:

  • PCW will credit (towards your PCW renewal) some/all of the court rental fee for certain (TBD which) PCW membership types playing matches at PCW (basically include league court time at PCW in your PCW membership). This applies to MPL roster players only (spares are excluded). Full details will be updated here when available.

Entry Fee:

  • A $200 refundable deposit is required within 24 hours of registration.
  • Total team fee will be $400 – $800 (includes 8 balls), plus $100 for the team performance bond (balance returned at the end of season).
  • The exact fee won’t be known until after the schedule is created – depends on the total number of matches and the number of matches playing in Portage (discounted rate).
  • Deposit and balance are to be paid by e-transfer to [email protected].

Free Agents / Partial Teams:

Individual players looking for a team and partial teams looking for additional players will be published here (player names only, email/phone number will NOT be listed). If you’d like to play but don’t have a full team then please register! Hopefully there will be others in your situation and/or teams looking for players. The league will do what it can to coordinate everyone into teams (but obviously no guarantees).

Team Registration:

This form is for full team registration. League spares, individuals and partial team registrations please fill out the form further below.

Player 1 is the Team Captain and registers the entire team. Players 5 through 8 are optional (only 4 play at any given time, see the league rules for details)  but consideration should be made for vacation. Spares are allowed throughout the season, including playoffs (see the detailed rules).

Spares/Individuals/Partial Team Registration:

League spares / individual / partial team registrations will have your name(s) listed in the sections above. Each player of a partial team needs to fill out this form with the comment section listing the other player(s). If a team forms out of the individuals/partial team then the captain needs to resubmit a full team registration form.
